A Dressing Dilemma Turns into a Savings Surprise

On occasion, I have been know to be…how shall I say, a bit of a procrastinator. So even though my husband told me we would be attending an event for his work months in advance, and although I was well aware that I had nothing fabulous to wear to said event, I did not begin to think about wardrobe until the week before.

By that point, with my work schedule, and the plans and appointments we had prescheduled for the week, there was no time for me to shop. The event was business casual and I wanted to dress to impress. A friend, who also happens to be my co-worker, listened to my dilemma, and after providing me with a laughable look, recommended Coldwater Creek.

During lunch, I went online and located their store page at ShopAtHome.com. There were some great bargains available and my interest was peaked. At the store site I discovered that they were having a sale of up to 70% off, on the majority of their apparel. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that their sizes are available in a wide range. By investigating the sizing chart I was able to confirm the best for me for each item—which I won’t share here.

The product descriptions were extremely helpful. I choose a purple, linen, A-line dress with princess seams and inverted pleats starting at the waist. The description even included measurements, predicted where the hem would fall, that the garment was fully lined and cleaning instructions. There were pictures and a video for a better look at the dress and how it hangs. I added this to my bag, noting that it was originally priced at $89.95 and marked down to $48.99, that’s around 45% off.

Next, I decided I wanted a jacket to wear with it. I quickly found a tailored jean jacket, made of lightweight Tencel. Thanks to the product notes I learned the exact button count, that there were yokes at the front and back—I then googled yokes before deciding I approved of this—and that the cuffs tie at a ¾ length. This was originally priced at $79.95, now available for $38.99—that’s more than a 51% savings.

Realizing how much I would save, I decided to add a necklace as well. I found a 36-inch quadruple strand of grey, square beads for $28.99, originally $49.95, 41% off. At checkout I applied my Coldwater Creek coupons, from ShopAtHome.com, for $20 off a purchase of $80 or more and another for free shipping. All in all I spent $96.97, saved $122.88, plus whatever shipping would have been. I had my new outfit before the big day and my husband was pleasantly surprised…and oblivious to the near catastrophe.
